Our former friends

The democracy of indiscriminate fire.
Yesterday
they were our friends,
But friends don’t embarrass you by spelling out
how government is for the governors.
Friends just kill terrorists.
Friends buy guns.
Our guns.
Their oil.
Best friends forever.
Our former friends are out there killing folk,
whilst our collective tuts cover
the snuffing of individual lives.
