Ambulances

Ambulances
whoop, wail.

Impatiently
skeltering
arteries
of
concertina’d cars,
nudged
nosebumpertail,
which tentatively
   and
            with
 stacatto’d
         awkwardliness
 close up, inch in,
in creeping reluctance,
shoving to congealed huff,
sacrificing speed for the pedestrian.

  1. Plenty of strong imagery. Your speaker must live where the drivers are polite: ‘sacrificing speed for the pedestrian’. Where I live, the pedestrian is sacrificed for speed.

  2. His wasn’t what I was expecting at all! But it’s quite brilliant! The erratic nature of those ambulances- so captured in the lunging and reversing form you have employed….oh and your descriptions are just excellent…very much enjoyed and a great take on the prompt

  3. thanks for taking us on that ride brian…can you imagine trying to work inthe back of one as it weaves through the city trying to go as fast as it can yet stay safe….oy…and to know your cargo is already hurting….great descriptors in this too..
