Noises Off

The mascara-scarred antimacassar,
the shifting firelight golds,
the unfolded musk of cuss-whispered night,
the faint purple-tinged stain
honey-slipped down wine-glass stems,
the kissed purple of lips, gums,
the pendulums tut….tut….tutting,
the tell-tale abandoning of a shoe,
the croon of some deserted singer
plying his seductive trade,
the upstairs breathing,
the off-screen sheet scuffling.
The sense of another room, where the passion is.

  1. Great use of language. I took this so literally- until the last line- and realised that this could be passion existing in the mind of someone- or someone having to listen to the throes of passion in another room! (poor soul)…description of the clock pendulum was exquisite

  2. That it’s in another room, makes it all the more intriguing. Gimme a match, so I can find the keyhole…Well, don’t smirk…you’re the master voyeur here…so well done, Brian…I like the alliterative “off screen sheet scuffling” Nice write!

  3. “the upstairs breathing,
    the off-screen sheet scuffling.
The sense of another room, where the passion is.”

The great build-up … that last line killed it 😀 It was totally awesome… the sensuality was perfect!
