A Nile Dusk

Feluccas dandle
on the knee of the Nile.

Lateens, settees,

ease, blown
in the peach of dusk.

As we sail by,

a farmer’s white jalabiya
fades,
orangey with the upstream,

ebbing
to a muezzin’s call.

The azan:
a veil wafting
over the setting eye of the Sun.

  1. After looking up felucca and lateen, the word settee threw me a little:-)
Meanwhile I listened to an azan, and it was beautiful.
Did you make that boat trip recently?
I enjoyed reading this and liked the dandling on the water.
